Meet Scott Brierton, one of our dedicated staff pharmacists at Melbourne Pharma. With a passion for precision and patient care, Scott brings excellence to every prescription.
Professional Background — What inspired you to pursue a career in pharmacy, and how did your journey lead you to Melbourne Pharma?
My dad was a pharmacist, so I followed in his footsteps and worked with him after college. Later, I worked for a grocery chain in Colorado as a pharmacy manager for many years, and after that found an opportunity at a busy compounding pharmacy in Orange County, New York where I realized this is the type of pharmacy I wanted to pursue for the rest of my career. I moved to Florida in 2017 and found a job at a compounding pharmacy in Melbourne that is no longer in business, but this is where I met the great crew of people who now work at Melbourne Pharma. We’ve been able to stick together through thick and thin, and here we are today building this new business.
Quality & Safety — What quality or safety standards do you consider non‑negotiable in daily operations? Is that a trick question? All quality and safety standards are non-negotiable. The standards are in place not only to support the quality of the products, but also to ensure the safety of the patients and consumers who use the products.
Team Collaboration — What do you value most when working with technicians, prescribers, and support staff? I value people who listen, as well as talk. Team collaboration is a two-way street. I enjoy collaborating with thoughtful people who care about the process as much as they care about the end result.
Regulatory Insight — How do you stay ahead of evolving compounding regulations and compliance requirements? Two of the main ways I stay on top of things is through State Pharmacy Board Newsletters and FDA Guideline updates. We rely on State Boards of Pharmacy and the FDA to keep us evolving safely as we move forward.
Fun Personal Insight — What’s something your team or patients might be surprised to learn about you? One of my very best friends in the world is my cat, Theodore. We are inseparable when I’m at home – I only wish I could figure out a way to bring him to work with me.
